Serdar Karagöz was born in Sakarya on May 24, 1981. After graduating from Istanbul Bilgi University with a bachelor's degree in Political Science, he completed a Master’s degree in Human Rights Law at the same institution, followed by a Master’s degree in Media Studies at The New School in the United States.

Having held various roles within Turkuvaz Media Group and The New York Times, Karagöz served as the Foreign News Editor for Sabah Newspaper and as the founding Editor-in-Chief of Daily Sabah. He subsequently served as the Deputy Director General Responsible for International Broadcasts at TRT. Since April 7, 2021, he has been serving as the Chairperson of the Board and Director General of Anadolu Agency.

Karagöz has held leadership roles as the President of the Association of the Balkan News Agencies – Southeastern Europe and Term President of the Alliance of Turkic News Agencies. He currently serves as the Vice President of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies.

He is married to Sema Karagöz, is fluent in English, and actively engages in basketball, padel, skiing, equestrian sports, and rowing.
