Prof. Haluk Görgün received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Yıldız Technical University. He earned his Ph.D. in 2003 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), United States. Following his doctoral studies, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Connecticut between 2004 and 2005.

From 2005 to 2008, he served as an Assistant Professor at Yıldız Technical University. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2008 and to Full Professor in 2013. He is also the founding head of the Department of Control and Automation Engineering at Yıldız Technical University, where he served as department chair between 2009 and 2013. During this period, he played a pivotal role in establishing several graduate programs.

Between 2007 and 2010, he represented Türkiye as the National Delegate for the Energy Field under the European Union’s 7th Framework Programme. He also held memberships in the Boards of Directors of YTÜ Technopark, the Scientific Research Projects Coordination Office, and the Science Application and Research Center. From 2010 to 2013, he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the YTÜ Sigma Journal of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

Prof. Görgün has held several key administrative positions at Yıldız Technical University, including Director of the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences and Vice Rector. In 2013, he was elected as an Associate Member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA). Between 2014 and 2018, he served as the Rector of Gebze Technical University, where he made significant contributions towards enhancing university–industry collaboration. During his tenure, he was honoured as “Rector of the Year” in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. Prof. Görgün has authored numerous national and international publications, edited scientific journals, and led many research projects. He received multiple awards from various institutions and organizations in recognition of his pioneering efforts in fostering university–industry cooperation.

Prof. Haluk Görgün was first elected as a member of ASELSAN’s Board of Directors on March 15, 2017. At ASELSAN’s Ordinary General Assembly held on April 2, 2018, he was re-elected to the Board of Directors and subsequently appointed as Chairman of the Board on the same day. In the Board meeting held on April 17, 2018, he was appointed as ASELSAN’s President and Chief Executive Officer. He officially assumed office on April 27, 2018.

Prof. Görgün has also served on various committees and boards within TÜBİTAK and the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). He chaired the Turkish Defence Industry Assembly under the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB). In addition, he has been a trustee of several foundations and institutions, including the Gebze Technical Education and Research Foundation (which he helped establish), the Turkish Basic Sciences Research Foundation, the Yıldız Technical University Foundation, and OSTİM Technical University. He was appointed as a Member of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) by Presidential Decree on August 1, 2023.

With the approval of the President of the Republic of Türkiye, H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prof. Görgün was appointed as the Secretary of Defence Industries by Presidential Decree No. 3, published in the Official Gazette dated June 6, 2023. He also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Strengthening the Turkish Armed Forces (TSKGV).

Prof. Haluk Görgün is married and has two children.
