First Place at TEKNOFEST Reaches the Arctic: Young Researchers Test Their Projects in the Polar Regions! | TEKNOFEST

A Scientific Journey from TEKNOFEST to the Arctic
 

The 6th National Arctic Scientific Research Expedition was conducted under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, under the responsibility of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, and coordinated by the TÜBİTAK Polar Research Institute (KARE). Three high school students, selected from among the first-place project winners of the "TÜBİTAK 2204-D High School Students Climate Change Research Projects Competition" held within the scope of TEKNOFEST, where the T3 Foundation serves as the main organizer, were included in the expedition team. Muhammed Emin Bozkurt, Kadir Asrın Sarı, and Barkın Özsoy contributed to scientific research by testing their projects on climate change under the challenging conditions of the Arctic.
 

While the Arctic region, where sea ice is rapidly declining due to global climate change, migratory routes of species are altering, and new maritime trade corridors are taking shape, hosts critical scientific research that will shape the future of the world, the TEKNOFEST Generation is carrying the vision of the National Technology Initiative to the polar regions with the projects they have developed.
 

TEKNOFEST Youth Bring Science to the Field!
 

Working alongside scientists as part of the 6th National Arctic Scientific Research Expedition, the TEKNOFEST competitors directly participated in research carried out along the sea ice line at 81 degrees North latitude. During the expedition, where seawater and sea ice samples were collected and temperature and salinity measurements were conducted, the atmosphere-ocean interaction was evaluated together, and polar ecosystems, the impacts of climate change, and environmental transformation were examined on-site in collaboration with international researchers. Thanks to these studies, the young researchers tested their projects in a real-world research environment, taking their place among a new generation of scientists contributing to Türkiye's polar science.
 

From TEKNOFEST to the Poles: 10 Scientific Projects in 4 Years
 

The High School Students Polar Research Projects Competition and Climate Change Research Projects Competition organized under TEKNOFEST serve as a vital bridge carrying young people's scientific endeavors into international research environments. Through these competitions held within the scope of TEKNOFEST, a total of 19 high school students with 10 different projects developed in teams participated in the National Arctic and National Antarctic Scientific Research Expeditions between 2023 and 2026, making direct contributions to polar research.
 

While TEKNOFEST encourages young people to research, develop, and produce through the technology competitions it holds every year, it also enables winning projects to step out of the laboratories and be applied in real life.
