The main category of the competition is based on "Modular Reactor Conceptual Design". Small Modular Reactors (SMR) and Micro Modular Reactors (MMR) have an important place among the energy technologies of the future due to their flexibility, safety and efficiency in nuclear power generation. In the core category of the competition, participants are expected to develop innovative designs and solutions for these reactor types.
In addition, sub-category project applications focusing on the sub-component design of the modular reactor system will also be accepted. The five different sub-categories are as follows:
- Simulation Development and Modeling Studies
- Reactor Heart Design
- Nuclear Instrumentation and Control System Design
- Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management
- Energy Cycle Design
Within the scope of TEKNOFEST 2024, teams are evaluated with Conceptual Design Report (CDR). For 2024, a Detailed Design Report (DTR) will not be required. Teams that meet the necessary requirements at this stage are eligible to participate in the final presentation as finalists.

The NUCLEAR ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES DESIGN COMPETITION, organized by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, will take place in TEKNOFEST Adana on October 2-6, 2024.
