Applications for the technology competitions organized within the scope of the TEKNOFEST Aerospace and Technology Festival are ongoing without slowing down. The Model Satellite Competition, conducted under the supervision of TÜRKSAT, with the application deadline on February 20, offers students the opportunity to experience an exciting process from designing a satellite and space project to initiating its mission.

In this competition, students' designed model satellites represent a useful payload capable of landing in the planetary atmosphere, collecting data from sensors, transferring the collected data to an interface, recording images, and conducting real-time data exchange. Participants are required to design a model satellite that reflects various aspects of real systems by developing an interdisciplinary working system with telemetry and communication requirements met, ensuring an autonomous structure.

The competition aims to provide undergraduate and graduate students with the opportunity to turn theoretical knowledge into practice and acquire interdisciplinary working skills. The winning team will receive a total prize of 470,000 TL, with the first-place receiving 150,000 TL, the second-place 120,000 TL, and the third-place 100,000 TL.

Contributing to the national production of space technologies and fostering the development of human resources in the field of space technologies that will shape the future of our world, the competition also offers students the chance to share experiences with other university teams and connect with industry institutions, companies, experts, and engineers.

After a long and detailed preparation process, participants will showcase their model satellites and their performances in the competition area of the TEKNOFEST Technology Competitions.

TEKNOFEST to Space…

The Grizu-263 team, which won first place in the TEKNOFEST Model Satellite competition, achieved significant success with their satellite technology initiative, Hello Space. The first test satellite of Hello Space, named "Istanbul," was launched into space in June 2023 aboard a SpaceX Falcon9 rocket. Designed as a pocket satellite, Istanbul measures 5cm x 5cm x 5cm and was developed both in terms of software and hardware in Turkey. The journey of the Istanbul pocket satellite is monitored from the Hello Space ground station at Ankara University Kreiken Observatory. In December 2023, Hello Space sent two new pocket satellites into space using the SpaceX Falcon9 rocket.
